Rebecca Wheaton-Sparkes, BMRPT

Rebecca (she/her) graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2009 with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physical Therapy through the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP) in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). For 13 years, Rebecca worked as a Physical Therapy Officer in the CAF and had the pleasure of treating and supporting members of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the Canadian Army. In 2020, she changed professions in the CAF but continued to work as a civilian physiotherapist practicing at Elite Sports Injury Clinic in Winnipeg, MB.

Rebecca’s professional career has been truly exciting! Highlights include a Humanitarian Mission in 2010 with the American Hospital ship, the USNS Mercy; providing musculoskeletal assessment and treatment throughout Indonesian and Malaysia; deploying in 2013 on Operation Attention to Kabul, Afghanistan where she helped the Afghan Army develop a physical therapy tech profession; and numerous International Military World Championships as the CAF head trainer including the 2019 Military World Games in Wuhan, China.

Being a CAF physiotherapist allowed Rebecca to develop a robust range of treatment techniques as she has been exposed to an extensive range of physical injury. Her current practice focuses on evidence-based active therapies, ensuring clients are taught the skills necessary to be an active partner in their own therapy. Education and dry needling/acupuncture in conjunction with therapeutic exercise form the foundation of her practice. She is also skilled in vestibular and concussion treatment.

Rebecca prides herself on physical fitness and is always working toward a bigger and better goal. She is an avid runner and cyclist and more recently has gotten into long course triathlon completing two half Ironman’s last summer. Her happy place is hiking a mountain in the back country with her spouse and two dogs, Dingo and Tilley.
